Amanda Baron graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1992 with a BA (Hons) in Architectural Glass. Over the past twenty years she has completed numerous commissions and undertaken glass painting and restoration work of major Scottish churches and public buildings. Amanda was artist in residence in the Glass Department, School of Design, Edinburgh College of Art in 2011-12. Recently she has developed small scale works and glass paintings for commission and exhibition.
Amanda’s work derives from direct observation of human control in the formation of landscape. Natural forms are translated onto glass using traditional painting techniques, not masking the qualities of the material but manipulating and adding to it. The exploration of the beauty and symbolism of botanical forms has been the focus for her work diversifying the traditional craft of stained glass by combining material knowledge with landscape painting and botanical illustration.
