Dawn graduated in sculpture from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in the 1980’s. She started painting in 2011, initially out of a desire to tell some of the seafaring stories she discovered while tracing her family tree – from the booming fishing industry of the 19th century to an account of surviving a shipwreck in mid-atlantic. In 2013 two of her paintings were selected to be exhibited at The Royal Society of Marine Artists Open Exhibition in London.
As well as each painting being seen as a snapshot of a story, her interest also lies in using the boats and scenes to convey emotions and relationships.
Dawn works as a graphic designer in Edinburgh, and lives on the East Lothian coast.
