Needle-felted Dog Sculptures
I first discovered the technique of needle-felting in 2012 and it very soon became a passion. It’s such a magical process – turning a pile of fluff into a three dimensional creature is something like alchemy. Dogs are also a passion of mine and so it was a natural choice for me to make them.
My dogs are made from fine quality pure wool and I like to experiment with the different textures of Shetland, Merino and Leicester fleeces as well as more exotic ones like Alpaca. These various fibres can be blended to match the distinctive coats of specific dog breeds.
Each dog sculpture is unique and takes many hours to complete; watching the character gradually emerge is always rewarding and sometimes surprising. My aim is to capture the personality and individuality of each dog and to express in miniature what makes dogs so special in real life.
