Jill Stewart is a nationally known jeweller and metal artist, who sells throughout the UK and Europe. All her work is made in her studio, each piece being handmade and individual.
She specialises in unusual combinations of metals, using silver with etched copper and brass, and heat-treated titanium, being interested in the contrasts produced by the different metal surfaces. Etching and heat effects produced in soldering heighten the contrasts, and add an element of variability along with painterly surface colouring. The surface oxides produced by heating can be controlled through experience to get just the right colour or pattern.
The jewellery is original, quirky, but very wearable and delicate, taking organic forms and simplifying them, shapes echoing those of leaves, flowers and forms found in nature.
The clocks are etched and created from different metals to form small pictures with text. They feature animals and birds, and along with the jewellery, form an illustrated miniature world inspired by details of the natural world around us.
“Customers tell me they like my work for its originality, and that in buying it they have a sense of gaining something individual and humorous and beautiful”.
