Marion studied MA Fine Art at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art, specialising in drawing and painting. Her mixed media work uses pastel, water colour, ink and pencil to create landscapes and seascapes which recreate the feeling of being out in the elements; in the sun, against the rain, under heavy clouds or below a limitless blue sky. These works are influenced by time spent in the open air around the countryside and coastline of Scotland.
Marion began throwing on a potter’s wheel as a teenager and has learned from other potters on holidays and in workshops over the years since then. Her current work uses stoneware clay which is biscuit fired and finished in a sawdust kiln. The pieces are unglazed to expose the natural clay finish, allowing the unpredictable nature of the smoke firing to take effect.
Marion has previously exhibited in galleries in Edinburgh, East Lothian and Fife.
She is a member of the Scottish Potters Association http://www.scottishpotters.org/marion-kennedy.asp and is a registered member of Craft Scotland.
